The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, University of Toronto, invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2008.

We are searching for a candidate with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in modern German literature and culture (from the 18th century to the present). The field of specialization is open. However, the department is seeking to strengthen its research and teaching profile in one or more of the following areas: gender studies; transnational literature; mediality, print, and material culture. Duties will include teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate level. A Ph.D. and native or near-native command of German are required.

The position offers the opportunity to teach and conduct research with a highly diverse student population and to work with groups and institutions that reflect the diversity of the Greater Toronto region. The appointment commences on 1 July 2008. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Promotion im Fach Germanistik mit Schwerpunkt Literaturwissenschaft Voraussetzung. BewerberInnen sollten in der Lage sein, ein weites Spektrum der Kurse zu unterrichten, die an einer deutschen Abteilung im Ausland üblich sind (einige Kurse verwenden Englisch als Unterrichtssprache).

Im Rahmen der Gesamtpolitik der Tamkang Universität strebt die Abteilung danach, ihr Forschungsprofil zu intensivieren. Erwartet wird ein kontinuierliches Engagement im Bereich der Forschung (Veröffentlichungen, Teilnahme an internationalen Konferenzen, andere Aktivitäten).
